Houston is slab-on-grade country. No basements here. Every duct goes up into the attic or straight out a side wall. In 1960s–80s tract homes the laundry sits in an interior closet, so the lateral run is long before it reaches outside air. Two-story subdivisions are worse: 20–35 ft of vertical to a roof cap, with two or more elbows.

Rerouting is path surgery, not cleaning. Equivalent length gets measured first. Each 90-degree elbow counts as added feet, and the dryer's install manual prints the allowance. Sometimes rerouting is the wrong call. If crushed foil behind a pedestal machine is the whole story, replace that transition and stop. Townhome stacked closets often share a chase controlled by the HOA. Afterward, hold a hand at the hood during a towel load. Strong warm air, dry fluff.
